Body Found in River Identified as 15 Yr Old Daniel Perez

- Just before seven Thursday morning a person jogging along the north side of the Concho River called police after seeing what they believed to be a body floating in the water. San Angelo police later identified the body, floating facedown 4 feet off the riverbank East of the Irving Street low-water crossing, as that of missing Central High School student 15-year-old Daniel Perez.

He was reported missing Tuesday and believed to be endangered as information indicated he was under the influence of an intoxicant. San Angelo police believe their initial search of the river was in the right place, but was made difficult by an underwater pipe line and cement barriers

"Several times during the search and deploying the dredging equipment the hooks that we use on that became caught up on the pipeline and on multiple occasions those hooks were broken and had to be replaced throughout the search," San Angelo Police Department Public Information Officer Tracy Gonzalez said.

Upon learning of the confirmation of the passing of their classmate Central High School Freshman Campus students were able to have parents pick them up or stay at school. A crisis response plan was initiated as SAISD officials brought in additional counselors to speak with students and faculty.

"It is so diifficult on the first day especially just having heard this so we're sensitive to that, but it won't just be a first day plan that's in place we'll continue with this as long as students have need," San Angelo Independent School District Public Information Officer Jaime Highsmith said.

Cause of death for Perez has not been confirmed as the body was transported to Lubbock for autopsy in this ongoing investigation.
