Bishop Sis' installation and ordination

- Archbishops, bishops, and Catholics alike are celebrating the ordination and installation of the 6th Bishop of the San Angelo Diocese, Bishop Michael Sis.

One young Catholic, Baine Jenschke, thinks he knows why Bishop Sis gets to be the next bishop.

"Because he gets his ring and staff and hat and all that," Jenschke said.

While Sis did just move to San Angelo, he is excited to meet the almost 80,000 Catholics in his diocese.

“I haven’t even finished unpacking my boxes yet. I just came to town on Thursday, the 23rd and I hit the ground running,” said Sis.

Sis' earthly father, Raymond Sis, couldn't be prouder of his son and even served as the Deacon of The Word in today's ceremony.

“There’s a part in the ceremony when we hold the Gospel over his head while he’s being ordained. So, I’m proud to do that,” stated Raymond Sis.

Catholics at the Austin Diocese accredit Sis' influence to the increased involvement of the youth and college students in the Catholic faith. At today's press conference, Sis elaborated on his hopes for the youth in his new diocese.

“Regarding working with youth in general, I consider youth to be our future. Our hope and I have every intention to seek to integrate young people more fully into the active life of the church wherever I go,” declared Bishop Sis.

Sis' mother, Janice Sis, says friends have been offering her and her son prayers and advice as he begins his duties as Bishop of San Angelo.

"My friends have been telling me lately I needed to prepare myself for this. I've been trying to be prepared and I think I'm very well prepared with all their advice," explained Janice Sis.

While Bishop Sis doesn't know what the future holds, he plans to try and serve his remaining 20 plus years here at the Diocese of San Angelo.
