For over 20 years, a military tradition is brought forth on this Independence Day; Fort Concho firing their artillery salutes.

The salutes began at 10:00 a.m., Friday, on the Fort's Parade ground; once every hour, the cannons fired for spectators.

Fort Concho volunteers fired reproductions of cannons used before and during the civil war era.

The Independence Day artillery fire is also a part of basic artillery training for fort living history volunteers.
