Central Prepares For Del Rio 08-25-14

Week one of the high school football season is finally upon us. The Central Bobcats open up this Friday night at home against the Del Rio Rams. KSAN'S Rachel Turnock was at Bobcat practice today and brings us this report.

This Friday night when the Bobcats open up season play, they'll be facing a familiar opponent in Del Rio, but this time the game will be played under different circumstances.

Rachel: "The Bobcats have been preparing for their first game at home this week, but the preparation is much different this time around than seasons past. Del is a team the Bobcats have faced only in scrimmages during th Brent Davis era."

Brent Davis: " Del Rio brings a lot of challenges. They play really fast. They run a wide open offenese, they're real aggressive on defense. We've scrimmeged them in the past. It's always been a really tight scrimmage. It's always been you know a touchdown or even less everytime we've tried to play them. It'll bea great game a good test for us and a really good first game to see where we are at."

Rachel: "Del Rio is bringing in a brand new offensive line into play, while their defense stays the same. Davis says this young offense should not be underestimated and he's ready for the challenges the Rams will bring to the Bobcat defense."

Davis: " Del Rio's offensive line is really good.  We've studied them all weekend. Offensively and defensively they're sound. They got great schemes and they're well coached. It's not going to be something where we're thinking we're going to go out there you know, because we're pretty good on defense, it's not going to be a challenge. These guys did a good job against El Paso in their scrimmage and their film shows that."

Rachel: " One major transition the Bobcats made for this season was for senior quarterback Braden Hucks. Hucks played as a running back last year for the Bobcats. Davis says he thinks Hucks is ready for his first game as starting quarterback."

Davis: " He's excited. Last week was really his first time being under the microscope and in the heat of the battle as a quarterback. He did it a lot last year as a running back  and did a great job. He'll get his feet wet and he'll figure it out. He's a fast learner and great kid and leader of our football team and it won't take him long to make the adjustment. "

This Friday Night San Angelo Stadium is the place to be as the Bobcats host the Del Rio Rams. Kickoff is set for 7:30. And of course you can catch all of the highlights right here Friday Night at 10:35 on Inside the Game.

Central fell in last year's area round of the playoffs to Keller Fossil Ridge and look to make their 5th straight playoff appearance this fall.
