by Cornelius Thompson Jr.Bri’Ana Soliz, Darian Bankston and Jordan Brooks are all freshman for the Lake View Maidens Basketball team. If you don’t know these 3 freshmen athletes you might want to. Bri’Ana, Darian and Jordan are all on the varsity squad and say hard work and determination got them there.
“We worked out a lot in the summer,” says Forward Bri’Ana Soliz. “We use to have training like every day, so we did a lot to make varsity in our first year.”
Last week in there first District game against Hereford the 3 athletes were apart of something new for the program, as all three got to start for the first time this season.
“I can tell you that’s my first time in 29 years to start 3 freshmen in a varsity district basketball game,” said Head Coach Roy Young. “When I was here at Lake View 15 years ago we had 2 really good freshmen kids that were all West Texas but I’ve never had 3 that were this good.”
The girls have all known each other since they were 7 years old and have changed the facet of Lake View hoops for the future but head coach Rob Young says forget the future there time is now.
“We are about the now, we are not just satisfied with having twelve wins and being better,” added Young. “We have a goal to get a playoffs spot. You say freshmen I don’t really consider them freshmen they play all year long and they’re just good basketball players.”
